Processes and devices for conveying bulk materials shaped as discrete slugs (1) in a pipe (12a) by means of a compressible transport medium are known. Their disadvantage is the energy-rich and sudden volume expansion of the transport medium (2) at the end of the pipe, between the outgoing slug (1) and the following slug of conveyed materials. In order to palliate this disadvantage, the amount (2') of compressed transport medium between successive slugs (1') is reduced in the downstream end area (12b) of the pipe in relation to the amount (2) of compressed transport medium between successive slugs (1) in an area upstream (at 12a) of the end of the pipe. For that purpose, a device for shaping long slugs (1) into short slugs (1') that follow each other at smaller intervals (2') is used.
