PURPOSE: To obtain a metal complex compound as a cyanogen pigment having a high molar extinction coefficient and excellent light fastness, and an optical recording medium having excellent optical recording properties and preserving stability from the subject compound. CONSTITUTION: The subject compound is expressed by formula I (X1 , X2 and X3 are each methyl, etc.; Y1 is methyl sulfonamide, etc.; Z1 is ethyl, etc.; Z2 and Z3 are each methoxyethyl, etc.; M is Ni or Cu) or formula II (Y2 , Y3 , Y4 and Y5 are each propyl, etc.; Z4 and Z5 are each isopropyl, etc.). The compounds of the formula I and the formula II are obtained by synthesizing an imidazole derivative introduced of a substituting group bondable with M, subjecting to an oxidative coupling reaction, etc., with a p-phenylenediamine derivative, etc., to obtain an azomethine pigment, dissolving in a suitable solvent and adding a metallic salt such as Ni-acetate. Preferably, molecular weight of the compound is <=1400 and an optical recording medium using the compound as a light- absorbing material contains the compound as a recording medium on a substrate in a thickness of 500-3000Å and a light source performing the recording and regeneration is a semiconductor laser. |
