A press-molding die comprises a base material (1), an intermediate layer (2) formed on a surface of the base material and a protective layer (3) formed on the intermediate layer. The base material (1) comprises a silicon dioxide based glass or monocrystal alumina. The intermediate layer (2) comprises a material which adheres to both the base material and the protective layer and is heat resistant at high temperatures to which the die is subjected in. The protective layer (3) comprises at least one metal film selected from the group consisting of tungsten (W), platinum (Pt), palladium (Pd), rhodium (Rh), ruthenium (Ru), iridium (Ir), osmium (Os), rhenium (Re), tantalum (Ta) and alloys thereof. Methods for manufacturing the die and use of the die for press-molding glass articles are also disclosed.
