<p>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To allow a door constituting a portion of the interior trim of a vehicle to be held in its closed position prior to inflation of an airbag and to prevent the door from flying into a passenger compartment during deployment of the airbag so as to enhance safety by providing a pressure-sensitive material via which the airbag is connected to the door. SOLUTION: An airbag module located behind an automotive instrument panel 10 includes a reaction canister 12 and an inflator 20 is housed adjacent to a floor 18 within the canister 12. A folded airbag 22 is housed within the canister 12 in such a fashion that its bag mouth is positioned to receive the gases generated. A door 26 comprising a breakaway portion is mounted in the region of a cutout 24 formed in the instrument panel 10, and in this case the door 26 is retained in the cutout 24 by a pressure-sensitive material such as a hook and loop fastener attached to the airbag 22 to prevent the door 26 from flying out during deployment of the airbag.</p> |
