A device for supplying a file to a mobile terminal by converting a file name and a method therefor are provided to convert a file name of a file to an applicable format which can be displayed on the mobile terminal, and to supply the converted file to the terminal, thus a user does not have to directly change the file name when storing the file. An input unit(110) receives a file download request for a mobile terminal(300). A transceiver(140) obtains file name display information from the terminal, and transmits a file to the terminal. A file download controller(120) decides whether a file name of the file to be provided to the terminal contains display impossible information on the terminal, by using the file name display information, and if so, the controller automatically converts the file name of the file so that the file is displayed on the terminal.
