摘要 <p>PURPOSE: To perform a stable electrical energization to be attained and to enable an automatic operation of a furnace to be carried out continuously by a method wherein a proper electrode spacing is selected within a predetermined range in a proper operating voltage and current range. CONSTITUTION: A relative spacing (an inter-center distance) S of electrodes 1 arranged in a linear array is set to be 1.6 to 2.1 times or preferably 1.8 to 2.0 times of a diameter of an applied electrode 1. In order to enable all loaded raw materials 4 to passed through a refining region of atmosphere and to enable a stable resolving and refining to be carried out continuously in a stable manner, a depth of hot molten metal storing section at a hearth is set to be 0.6 to 1.1 times of a diameter of the electrode 1, preferably 0.8 to 1.0 times of it, a lateral width of the hot molten metal accumulating section is set to be 1.6 to 2.2 times of the diameter of the electrode 1, preferably 1.8 to 2.0 times of it, and its length is set to be 5.4 to 6.2 times, preferably 5.4 to 6.0 times of the diameter of the electrode 1. With such an arrangement as above, it is possible to perform a stable electrical energization and further to perform a continuous automatic operation of the furnace.</p>
