Access control system for computers connected in a private network

The control system includes separate access control modules (1a-1d), with access to the private network performed through one of these modules. Each module can inhibit transmission of data or allow full or partial transmission to a host machine. A central supervisory module (2) associated with the private network is connected by a dedicated link to each of the access control modules. The terminals in the private network direct requests for data transmission through the supervisory module, which authorises operation of the access control modules. The supervisory module can record individual access at each access control module.
