The prodn. of aldehydes comprises reacting mono-, poly- or cyclo-olefins or derivs. thereof with CO and H2 at 20-180 degrees C and 0.1-30 MPa in the presence of Co or Rh complex catalysts of formula (LaMbXc)<n)<A)n (I) M = Co or Rh; X = mono- or poly-dentate, charged or uncharged ligand; L = mono- or di-carbene ligand of formula (II)-(V): R<1>-R<6> = opt. sulphonated 1-7C alkyl, 5-18C mono- or poly-cyclic aliphatic gp., 2-5C alkenyl, 6-14C aryl or 7-19C aralkyl; R<1> and/or R<2> may also be -(CH2)mPR'2 (with m = 1-4; R = benzyl, opt. substd. Ph or naphthyl) or -(CH2)mOR'' (with R'' = alkyl, pref. Me, or vinyl, allyl, benzyl or Ph); R<3>-R<6> may also = H; R<3> + R<4> and/or R<5> + R<6> may also = opt. sulphonated 3-7C annelated gps.; R<1>, R<2>, R<4> or R<6> may form a ring with ligand X; Y = satd. or unsatd. linear or branched 1-4C alkylidene, or dialkylsilylene or tetra-alkyldisilylene; A = monovalent anion or equiv. of multivalent anion; b = 1-3; a = 1-4.b; c = 0 or 1-4.b; n = 0 or 1-6. |
