The steam-energised sterilising assembly comprises a pressure vessel and a vacuum pump linked by a suction pipe and a condenser. Steam is supplied to the pressure vessel by a water reservoir and steam generator. The vacuum pump is operated free of water, with a water-free cooled condenser. The vacuum pump is a membrane pump (3), and the condenser is an air-cooler (14) with a condensate collector (12). The condenser cooling surfaces are associated with a ventilator (10) and/or a heat pump and/or Peltier elements. The suction pipe (13) from the pressure vessel (1) is connected to the condensate collector (12) below the air cooler (14), while the condensate drain is linked to the condensate collector (12) above the air cooler (14).
