PURPOSE: To obtain a composite material having a dense homogeneous matrix structure and excellent in precision workability, mechanical characteristics and heat conductivity. CONSTITUTION: When a suspension for impregnation is prepd. by dispersing carbonaceous powder in a soln. consisting of a thermosetting resin and an org. solvent, carbonaceous powder having <0.5μm average particle diameter is used as the carbonaceous powder and the amts. of this powder, the thermosetting resin and the org. solvent are regulated so as to attain 5-50cP viscosity of the resultant suspension at room temp. The resultant suspension is impregnated into carbon fibers, they are molded so that the carbon fibers are arranged in one direction and the resultant molded body is cured and fired to obtain the objective unidirectional carbon fiber reinforced composite material having 50vol.% carbon fiber content. In this composite material, the volume of pores each having >=10μm diameter measured by a mercury press-injecting method is <=5% of the total pore volume and the volume of open pores is >=90% of the total pore volume. |
