PURPOSE: To provide a liquid crystal display device capable of preventing printing pattern from being seen through a display screen and enhancing brightness. CONSTITUTION: In this illuminator for a liquid crystal display device 1b; a dotted light scattering layer 8 and a light reflector 6 are successively disposed on one principal plane of a wedged light transmission plate 3a in which a fluorescent lamp is disposed at one end face and which is thinner in thickness as it goes away from the fluorescent lamp, and a light diffusion plate 5a is provided on another principal plane, then, the light diffusivity of the area B of the diffusion plate 5a corresponding to the thin part of the light transmission plate 3a is made higher than that of an area A corresponding to the thick part. |
