The transceiver station has a number of function modules connected one after the other in the information transfer direction and coupled to a central monitoring and control device. Each function module has a multi-function stage (MFE), switched between different operating modes under control of the central monitoring and control device. Each of the multi-function stages has a common signal processor (SP1,SP2,SP3) used for each operating mode and corresponding hardware (TE11,TE12,...TE31,TE32) for each operating mode, with the signal processors of the successive function modules connected in series.
