Data exchange communications system

The system can transfer data in digital form over long distances. The region covered by the system is divided into essentially circular zones (1) which overlap at the edges and contain zone base stations (2) at their centres, each transmitting at a defined frequency and with its range determining the zone radius. Communications links can be established via one or more radio channels between a base station and one or more stationary or mobile communications devices within its zone.The base stations communicate via data highways (3) and a control bus (4) over cable or radio links and with interconnected node computers (5) for zones in defined regions. The data traffic via the radio and cable links and between communications devices can be monitored and controlled by the node computers. A communications device is assigned using its address identifier when changing to a different zone base station.
