The system comprises objective and subjective data acquisition units (1,2) and an evaluation unit (3) with a display (4), a personal computer interface (5) and a special interface (6) for a TV receiver or other monitor.Physiological or behavioural parameters are acquired continuously over at least eight days and/or nights with or without the patient's co-operation, and transmitted directly or indirectly or by telemetry to the evaluation unit, which is programmed to classify sleep disturbances according to duration and frequency, spontaneous early waking and oversleeping with allowances for shift working and "jet lag".
