Sensor for detecting oxidants

A sensor for oxidising agents is claimed and consists of an oxidisable aromatic polymer. Prodn. of a gas sensor having a porous polymer surface finish is also claimed, and comprises: (a) immersing the crystal initially in a solvent used for gas analysis of polymers, and then in a non-solvent, until all the solvent has been substd. by non-solvent and the non-solvent removed by drying, whereby the polymer remains in porous form on the surface of the crystal, or (b) (i) immersing the crystal in a polymer solvent which has good adhesion effect, (ii) drying, (iii) immersing in a suspension of porous particles used for gas analysis of polymers, and (iv) drying, whereby the porous particles are combined with the crystal over the intermediate layer. Further claimed is the prodn. of a polyarylene sulphide or polyarylene ether as an active component of the sensor.
