The appts. (2) applies lubricant to crimp sleeves of elements attached to a carrier strip before the crimping process is carried out. The crimp sleeves have a base and a pair of upright crimp arms (66). The latter are permanently deformable by a crimping tool. The appts. includes an applicator with a nozzle device (20) which sprays pulses of lubricant onto the crimp arms (66) of the sleeves. The crimp arms (66) are positioned on the applicator in a spray mist receiving position. A control box may be provided to control the release and the pulse time of the spray. The control box (4) may feed lubricant to the applicator as well as control the air pressure to generate the spay. A sensor (70) may also be provided to detect the presence of the element. The sensor (70) is connected to the control box to trigger the spray pulse.
