A cold chest for transporting goods that would easily perish at room temperature has insulated walls and a removable or hinged lid (7). One wall has an opening (9) incorporating an adsorptive cooling block 912). This has a liquid chamber on the inside and a zeolite filling on the outside, the two being connected by a vapour tube. The block can be easily exchanged for a similar one by being slid out of the wall, where it is held by a tongue- in-groove attachment. When the lid is closed, this provides secure retention of the block. A different design of block has a stepped contour and is pushed in sideways from the outside, with a knob and a lock to hold it.
