The appts. for orbital guiding and drive of a welding tool during welding of the ends of pipe pair incorporates a drive for rotational motion of the tool about the axis, and a mechanism for tool holding and height adjustment. The guide path (F) is the side surface of an axisymmetric body of revolution which directly or indirectly is connected to a unit (3) for aligning and clamping the ends (1a, 2a) of the pipe pair. A driven gearwheel (5h) of a gear unit (5f,5h) is mounted on the guide path (F) and is rigidly connected to the holding and height adjustment mechanism (6) of the welding tool (7).
