The carriage (10) has the passenger compartment divided internally into a main compartment (21), permanently secured to the rail-mounted chassis (14) and transit compartment (22), which can be displaced along the longitudinal axis of the rail vehicle to bring it into alignment with a required carriage. The main compartment and the transit compartment lie side-by-side and have complementary cross-sections, both pref. having the same axial length, with their facing walls having doors (30) which are aligned to allow a passenger to move from one compartment to the other.
