PURPOSE: To obtain a compond which gives a high-density vivid yelow record with a low energy and has a good light resistance by diazotizing an aminodicyanoimidazole, followed by coupling with a phenol. CONSTITUTION: A dicyanoimidazoleazo compound represented by formula I. An aminodicyanoimidazole of formula II is diazotized and then coupled with a phenol of formula III to give an azo compound of formula IV, which is one of dicyanoimidazoleazo compounds of formula I (wherin both R<1> and R<4> are H). By treating the compound with, e.g. an alkylating agent represented by formula V, a dicyanoimidazoleazo compound of formula I (wherein R<1> and R<4> are each alkyl) can be synthesized. In the formulas, R<1> and R<4> are each H or an alkyl; R<2> and R<3> are each H, an alkyl, an alkoxy, a halogeno, an acylamino or hydroxy; R is an alkyl; and Z is a halogen. |
