PURPOSE: To obtain the subject copolymer consisting of a specific vinyl acetylsalicylate unit and a specific vinylpyrrolidone unit, capable of providing a acetylic acid having pharmacodynamic effects by saponification, capable of carrying out fine control of pharmacodynamic effect and providing water-soluble property and useful as a material, etc., for medicines. CONSTITUTION: This copolymer consists of 0.1-30mol% structural unit of formula I and 70-99.9mol% structural unit of formula II. The copolymer is preferably produced by polymerizing a mixed liquid of (A) vinyl acetylsalicylate with (B) vinyl pyrrolidone, e.g. containing the component A in an amount of 0.1-15mol% based on a total monomer amount at 50-80 deg.C for 2-7hr in the presence of a radical polymerization initiator such as 2,2'-azobisisobutylonitrile. |
