The coding device uses at least one coding pin and at least one corresponding coding hole, the coding pin (25) fitted into a mounting block (4), fitted to a profile rail of the reception frame for the plug-in circuit modules. A coding plug (31) is fitted to the profile rail via a pair of plug pins (33) fitting into respective openings of an aperture rail (19) and provides the coding hole (35) which has an edge slot (36) for receiving a projecting rib (30) extending axially along the coding pin.
