DISTILLATION COLUMN FOR INTEGRATED ETHANOL PRODUCTION AND ANIMAL FEEDING SYSTEM

An novel distillation column for an integrated energy efficient ethanol production and animal feeding system comprising: (a) hollow enclosed chamber; (b) liquid pumping means for introducing an ethanol containing liquid into the chamber and volatilizing the liquid into fractions including an ethanol vapour fraction; (c) vapour withdrawal means for withdrawing the ethanol vapour fraction from the chamber (a); (d) a plurality of temperature means distributed throughout the chamber means for measuring and controlling temperature in the chamber (a); (e) first means in the interior of the chamber (a) for heating or cooling the interior of the chamber according to the temperature means (d); (f) a plurality of large surface to volume ratio solid means dispersed throughout the interior of the lower region of the chamber to provide condensation-vapourization surfaces for the fractions; (g) reflux means located in the upper region of the chamber (a) for refluxing the ethanol vapours; (h) second means in the interior of the reflux means for cooling the reflux means; and (i) programmed computer means for controlling the liquid pumping means (b), the vapour withdrawal means (c), the temperature means (d), the first means (e), the reflux means (g) and the second means (h).
