PURPOSE: To exactly perform correlative matching processing at high speed by roughly acquiring the part having a large correlation value with a template from an input image and precisely preforming comparion of the correlation values with respect to the acquired part. CONSTITUTION: First of all, the template (the size is (m)) is moved keeping moving intervals (s) as rough search and the correlation values at respective positions are acquired. Next, a prescribed number of positions are selected in order of larger correlation value and these positions are defined as candidate points (shown by a void rectangle in the figure). Then, the respective candidate points are moved within a range of a cubic having one side of 2×(s)+(m)-1 with this candidate point set as a center by one picture element as detailed search, and the correlation values at respecive positions are acquired. Based on the correlation values acquired by the detailed search, the correlation matching position is found.
