PURPOSE: To stably and continuously focus on the same object to be focused even when an area in which a desired object to be focused on lies was lost once. CONSTITUTION: The device is provided with a decision means PRS for deciding whether or not the defocusing amount selected at this time is the one for the same object to be focused on that shows the defocusing amount selected in the past based on the relation between the defocusing amount selected at this time and the defocusing amount selected in the past, and also provided with an area decision means PRS for actuating a defocusing amount detecting means again when it is decided by the decision means that the defocusing amount is the one with reference to a different object to be focused on, and also for weighting an area where the defocusing amount selected at the last time is obtained and an area near that, area, and then deciding an area having the defocusing amount with reference to the same object to be focused on, out of respective defocusing amounts in plural areas obtained when the defocusing amount detecting means actuated again. |
