The scissors (1A) comprise two halves, each with a blade (2A,3A) and handle, connected at a swivel joint (9). The blades move across one another when opened. The swivel joint has flat contact surfaces (14). At least one blade (2A) has a reduced cross-section (7) at a groove (8A) on its outer face close to the swivel joint transverse to the longitudinal axis of the blade. The depth and width of the groove are chosen so that the blade deforms elastically in bending without twisting during operation at the reduced blade section. Instead of the swivel joint, the blade section at the groove behaves as a sprung integral hinge for the lateral bending of the blades.
