PURPOSE: To obtain a thermosetting composition which has good shelf stability and can give a coating film excellent in acid resistance and weather resistance by mixing a specified copolymer with a specified heat-latent cationic polymerization initiator. CONSTITUTION: This composition is obtained by mixing 100 pts.wt. copolymer comprising anα,β-ethylenically unsaturated epoxy monomer or both this monomer and anα,β-ethylenically unsaturated hydroxy monomer and anotherα,β-ethylenically unsaturated monomer with 0.01-5 pts.wt. heat-latent cationic polymerization initiator having a phenolic skeleton in the molecule [e.g. a compound of formula I (wherein R<1> is H, alkyl, acetyl or alkoxycarbonyl; and X<1> is SbF6 , PF6 , AsF6 , SbCl6 or BF4 ) or formula II (wherein R<2> is H, halogen, alkyl, alkoxy or nitro; R<3> is R<1> ; and X<2> is X<1> )]. This composition is suitable as a component for a coating material, an ink or the like.
