Polyesters (I) which are biodegradable under natural conditions by the action of microorganisms (e.g. as described in DIN 53739D) comprise polycondensation prods. with statistically distributed or alternating monomer units, derived from: (a) a mixt. of aliphatic and aromatic polyols and an aliphatic polycarboxylic acid or, (b) an aliphatic polyol, possibly with an aromatic polyol, and a mixt. of aromatic and aliphatic polycarboxylic acids, or (c) an aromatic hydroxy-monocarboxylic acid and an aliphatic hydroxy-monocarboxylic acid.
