COCHLEA IMPLANT SYSTEM

The invention relates to a cochlea implant system consisting of a speech processing unit and an implant as a hearing aid for the deaf. Existing cochlea implant systems can only inadequately be adapted to the constantly improving state of knowledge and development in the field of the conversion of acoustic signals into an impression of hearing for a deaf person through suitable electrical stimulation of the aural nerve. The proposed implant system, however, is of such a universal conception that it meets existing and likely future requirements. The implant system has, in particular, means for the insertion of a novel transmission system between the speech processing unit and the implant which reliably ensure the exchange of data in time multiplex by the amplitude modulation of a high-frequency carrier signal in data packets with bi-phase coded bits. The transmission system makes it possible to modulate intra or extra-cochlear electrodes with a suitably designed implant in a wide variety of modes. Telemetric back-transmission of data measured at the implant can be provided by means for damping the high-frequency carrier signal transmitted by the speech processing unit.
