<p>The composite electrode(1) has a metallic ferrule(2), a graphite or carbon central column(3) composed of elements assembled by nipples(4) and a carbon paste(3) between the ferrule(2) and the column(3). The column(3) is suspended from a support(6) which can move in the vertical direction, with respect to the ferrule(2), over a length greater than the length of each of the elements. The relative movement of the support(6) with respect to the column(3) is made by the use of screws(8). The column(3) is fixed to the support(6) by means of a piece(5) whose end shape is the same as that of the nipples(4).</p> |
