PURPOSE: To impart antimicrobial properties to a frit and prevent coloring of a glass layer due to an antimicrobial silver compound by further adding Ag2 O and Sb2 O3 to a frit containing one or two or more alkali metal components selected from a group consisting of SiO2 , B2 O3 and Na2 O, K2 O or Li2 O. CONSTITUTION: This antimicrobial frit is obtained by further adding 0.05-2.0wt.% of Ag2 O and 0.1-3wt.% of Sb2 O3 to an ordinary fritconstituting component, namely an alkali metal component, etc., comprising SiO2 , TiO2 , ZrO2 and B2 O3 and Na2 O, K2 O, Li2 O, etc. A coefficient of thermal expansion of the resultant frit is 80-120×10<-7> /k when used for steel plates or a cast and 60-100×10<-7> K when used for ceramic plates or ceramics. Although these components are mixed in order to produce the frit, quartzite, feldspar, etc., is used as a raw material of SiO2 , The mixture is melted at 1000-1500 deg.C. Tank furnace, etc., is used for melting and, finally, the melt is quenched in water or in the air.
