PURPOSE:To facilitate discrimination of material after a process, and improve the productivity of a thermoelectric element, by making the material for constituting layers in the surface treatment, different, concerning P-type thermoelectric material and N-type the thermoelectric material. CONSTITUTION:On both surfaces of a wafer-shaped P-type thermoelectric material 1 and a wafer-shaped N-type thermoelectric material 2, nickel-plated layer 3 are formed by a wet plating method. Only on the P-type thermoelectric semiconductor material, a copper-plated layer 4 is formed by a wet plating method. The one surface is copper-colored and the other surface exhibits metal color, so that clear visual discrimination is enabled. The wafer-shaped P-type material 1 and the wafer-shaped N-type material 2 are cut into chips 5, 6 having the dimension equal to one element. As to the P-type, the outermost surface is covered with the copper-plated layer 4. As to the N-type, the nickel-plated layer 3 is exposed. These are simply discriminated by visual observation. Thereby the P-type thermoelectric material and the N-type thermoelectric material can be easily discriminated in the course of manufacturing thermoelectric elements, so that the productivity can be improved. |
