Endoscope illumination control device utilising screening shutter

The control system for an endoscope illumination source to illuminate an object field, includes the light screening shutter, a stepping motor to drive the screening shutter at regular predetermined intervals, and a device to measure the illumination level at each interval. A further device produces impulses within each interval, and another device determines the impulse count corresponding to the difference between required and actual light intensity. The correspondence between impulse count and light intensity is stored in a look-up table, allowing adjustment of the shutter angle.
