The laminate comprises a decorative layer (3), a core layer (4) of resin saturable paper, and an extensible sheet. The extensible sheet is prepared from wood pulp characterized by a basis weight of from about 130g/m<2> to about 505 g/m<2> (about 80 pounds/3,000 ft.<2> to about 310 pounds/3,000 ft.<2>), a tensile modulus of below 24 N/mm<2> (about 3.5 kpsi) and a cross directional stretch of from about 1 % to about 3 %. The pulp is refined wood pulp subsequently subjected to a mechanical treatment at an energy input of at least about 0.0394 kWh/kg (about 2 hp-days/ton) which imparts kinking and curling characteristics to individual pulp fibers. <IMAGE> |
