The workpieces (1) are moved past a sensing system to map the profile of each item. The processor controlled spray coating station controls the position and movement of the spray head to provide an even thickness coverage related to the workpiece shapes. No separate adjustment is required for the spray heads. The single chip processor divides the workpiece into horizontal segments and regulates the position control motors for the spray heads, as well as the sweep speed of the spray heads. The latter is controlled via variable resistances in the motor drive circuit.
