<p>A closed shot die casting metal delivery system having a rotary actuated closure member (24) includes a shot sleeve (22) having a bore (28) and a transverse fill hole (34) communicating with the bore (28). The closure member (24) is rotatably mounted on the shot sleeve (22) and defines a window (68). The closure member (24) rotates between a fill position in which the window (68) is aligned with the filling hole (34) and a casting position in which the closure member seals the filling hole (34). Any excess molten material from the fill is poured from the closure member (24) as it rotates. In the preferred embodiment, the closure member (24) is mounted eccentrically with respect to, and intersects, the bore (28). In this case, the closure member (24) defines an arcuate recess (72) that aligns with the internal bore (28) when the closure member (24) is in the casting position, thereby allowing the plunger (48) to reciprocate through the internal bore (28). <MATH></p> |
