PURPOSE:To shorten retrieval time by preventing the retrieval of an unnecessary part from being performed by making possible the selection of a retrieval range. CONSTITUTION:Document data is read from an external storage device 8, the data is stored in a main storage device 7 and the data is displayed on a CRT 4. The displayed document data is composed of specified frames. By using a KB 2 and a mouse 1, a character string to be retrieved and a range (frame) to be retrieved are designated on the display screen CRT 4. A CPU 6 executes a retrieval processing for the only range (frame) for which the retrieval instruction is performed within a VRAM 5. By instructing all the ranges of the document data including the frames, all the ranges of document data is possible to be retrieved. |
