The seat has a sprung elastic panel (4) beneath which is a plate spring (5). The seat panel and plate spring are fixed to each other by a cross-support (6) on the back of the chair. The backrest (7) is fixed to the cross-support. The plate spring is joined at the front of the seat-support (2) and, at the back, can flex downwards. The front of the seat panel has a spacer piece (8) which is swivel-mounted on its underside to the seat support. The back part of the plate spring is bent upwards. The length of the downward sloping part of the plate spring is adjustable.
