MODULE CATALYTIC CONVERTER FOR INTERNAL COMBUSTION ENGINE AND MUFFLER

PURPOSE: To provide a modular catalytic converter and a muffler capable of purifying exhaust from a relatively large diesel engine. CONSTITUTION: This device has various structural components mounted in an exhaust flow passage within a housing 11 with an inlet 12 and an outlet 13. A plate 19 mounted within the housing 11 divides the housing 11 into an inlet chamber 15 and an outlet chamber 16. Plural catalytic converter sub-cans 18 are mounted across the plate 19 between the inlet chamber 15 and the outlet chamber 16. A flow distributor 30 is mounted within the housing 11 upstream of the catalytic converter sub-cans 18. The flow distributor 30 divides and directs a portion of exhaust to each the catalytic converter sub-can 18.
