The invention relates to a coupling mechanism for bar constructions, where the main bar 101 and the crossbars 102 or 103 are identical cavity profiles provided with two wide side walls and two narrow side walls. Two crossbars 102 or 103 which adjoin the main bar 101 are coupled together. The coupling member is the through-hole on the narrow side wall of each main bar 101. A pin, which projects on both sides of the main bar 101, has been inserted through the through-holes 112. Both ends of the pin 111 are located in the hole 117 of a fastening part 113. The fastening parts 113 are adapted to the inner shape of the crossbars 102 or 103 and both lie in the region of the end of the crossbar 102 or 103. The hole 117 of the fastening part 113 is designed as a conically narrowing hole in the direction of insertion of the pin in such a manner that, when the pin is inserted, the fastening part is expanded transversely to the hole, and the crossbar 102 or 103 is therefore wedged against the inner wall. The fastening part 113 has a stop means in the region of the rear end surface.
