A telecommunications access network comprises a plurality of customer terminals (25, 30) and a plurality of network nodes (23, 28). Each network node (23, 28) is connected to a plurality of the customer terminals (25, 30) by respective local access lines (24, 29), whereby each customer terminal is connectible to a switch (11, 12) of a telecommunications core network via on e of the network nodes. At least one of the customer terminals (25', 30') is connected to two of the network nodes (23, 28) by respective local access lines (24, 24' or 29, 29').
