The invention relates to a flush valve for agitating sediments and for breaking-up and mixing waste water components forming floating scums in waste water pumping stations. The flush valve consists of a valve housing (2) with an outlet (4) and an inlet (3) connected to the delivery side of the pump, a valve cup (5) sealed against the valve housing (2) and a valve body (6) which lies in the valve cup (5) with the valve open (I) and lies in front of a sealing seat (7) fitted on the outlet side in the valve housing (2) when the valve is closed (II). There is a device acting in the valve cup (5) to hold the valve body (6) in its inoperative position. After the holding device is actuated, the valve body (6), which is advantageously a floating ball, is conveyed from its inoperative position in the valve cup against the sealing seat by the flowing pump medium. In a preferred embodiment, the holding device consists of a working cylinder (9) with a pneumatically operable piston rod (10) pushed into the valve cup (5) via an aperture.
