A tool has a datum member (9) connected to a carriageway (2) by a link arm (12) and cruciform link arms (10, 11). The carriageway (2) accommodates a slideable cutting or marking tool (31) which can cut or mark a material such as wall board at a required lateral distance from the datum member (9). The distance is set by movement of the ends of the arms (10, 11 and 12) along the scales (S?4, S5 and S7¿) upon release of the locking members (19b) prior to their being locked at the required position on the respective scales. When a material is to be cut or marked at a required angle, then arm (11) is first released from its connection with the carriageway (2) at the locking member (19b). The edges (2a and 9a) of the carriageway (2) and datum member (9) respectively are then brought into juxtaposition and for small angles the end (2a) of the carriageway (2) can be slid relative to the end (9a) of the datum member (9) and the angles read off along scale (S8). Alternatively, for larger angles a locking member (34) can lock the carriageway (2) at the end (45) of the scale (S8), adjacent the end (9a) of the datum member (9), and with the locking member (19a) of the arm (12) now released, this can travel along the scale (S6) in selecting a required angle.
|
