PURPOSE:To speed up write processing at low cost by providing a battery which backs up a server machine for a certain time in case of a power failure, and informing a client of processing completion before write processing is written in a nonvolatile storage device when a request for write processing is received from the client. CONSTITUTION:When the write request is received from the client through a LAN, write processing such as alterations of write data, a directory, is written in a main storage 32 as the volatile storage device. At this time, the operation is performed while the main storage 32 is regarded as a nonvolatile memory, so when the processing on the main storage 32 ends, it is considered that the writing to the nonvolatile storage is completed, and the write processing completion is reported to the client through the LAN. When a power source control circuit 302 detects a break of power supply from an AC power source 36 owing to a power failure, the AC power source 36 is switched to the battery 301 to enable the whole server machine to operate continuously for a certain time, e.g. 15 minutes, and the contents of the main storage 32 are saved on a hard disk 33. |
