Pipetting device which contains the following components: a pipetting needle (11), connected to a metering device, for transferring a liquid volume from a primary vessel (13, 14, 15) to a secondary vessel (19), the primary vessel (11) and the secondary vessel (19) being arranged on the same or on different vessel support units (31, 29), and each vessel with respect to the vessel support unit supporting it having a specific, unambiguously defined position, an advancing device for the controlled advancement of the pipetting needle in three mutually perpendicular directions, and a control device (39) for controlling the metering device and the advancing device. For the purpose of determining the coordinates of the pipetting positions for a given position and orientation of each vessel support unit, the pipetting device is provided with the following additional components: a) per vessel support unit at least one reference body (41, 42, 43) which is a part of the vessel support unit (31) or is directly and rigidly attached thereto, and which has planar faces which can be scanned by the pipetting needle, b) a control which is contained in the control device (39) and serves to effect an advance of the pipetting needle up to each of the faces (51, 52 and 53, respectively), each of which defines a reference point, of the at least one reference body (41, 42, 43), and c) means for detecting a contact of the pipetting needle (11) with each of the faces (51, 52 and 53, respectively), each of which defines a reference point, of the at least one reference body (41, 42, 43). <IMAGE> |
