The image processing commences with designation of a region of the image that is to have one part removed. The image data from the part of the picture outside this region is fused with the image information inside the region.The fusion of the two sets of image data is obtained by application of a convolution kernel to the selected region, from an external edge of the region toward a central point. The convolution kernel comprises an element relative to an image pixel and elements situated closer to the external edge of the region. The pixel weighting is 1/16th, and the weighting of the immediately adjacent pixels is 4/16th. The weighting of external pixels is 1/16th. The user designates the region to be processed and a computer performs the necessary alterations.
