PURPOSE:To provide an auxiliary brake and power unit in which the service life of a battery is prolonged while while eliminating waste of energy by observing the charged state of battery correctly and effecting the control depending on the charged state. CONSTITUTION:The auxiliary brake and power unit comprises an inverter circuit 4 for coupling the DC circuit 3 of a secondary battery and the AC polyphase circuit of a squirrel-cage induction machine coupled directly with the rotary shaft of a prime mover for vehicle, i.e., an internal combustion engine 1, while converting the electric energy bilaterally, a control circuit 5 for the inverter circuit 4, a current sensor 23 for monitoring the terminal current of the secondary battery 3, and a voltage sensor 13 for monitoring the terminal voltage of the secondary battery. Output values from the sensors 23, 13 are stored under auxiliary brake mode, auxiliary power mode, and start mode and compared with a reference value and if the difference is higher than a predetermined value, a charge alarm is delivered. Since the charge/discharge current can be observed directly without interrupting the control mode during travel, error can be suppressed in the measurement. |
