The device is designed to operate two or more internal combustion engine valves, and has a beam-shaped casing (2) which is driven by a controlling cam on a camshaft. The beam has centrally mounted balance beam (8), whose ends (9) act upon the valves.The balance beam runs parallel to the camshaft and is pivotally mounted on the casing by a bearing (34). A frictional force is produced in the bearing, which is greater than the difference between the spring and frictional forces of the valves during displacement motion, and which is less than the force required to open one of the valves.
