PURPOSE:To provide an external communication device for a camera which does not require a special input port to perform communication with an external adjusting device and which does not exert an influence even on time lag or noise. CONSTITUTION:In the camera provided with a connector 15 for external communication being a serial communication terminal for adjusting the camera by the external adjusting device and a microcomputer 11 controlling the camera; the external communication device for the camera outputs a communication signal from the connector 15 so as to always perform the communication with the external adjusting device and inhibits the communication with the external adjusting device in the case release switches 21 and 22 are turned on in the camera or in the case a mode for processing a feeble signal in the midst of standby for receiving a remote control signal from a remote control device or in the midst of focus detecting operation by an AF circuit 12 or in the midst of photometric operation by a photometry circuit 13 is set.
