The invention relates to a workpiece, especially a housing (6) for an electric switch, and a process for producing it. The workpiee consists of at least two components (7, 8), preferably of a thermoplastic material, welded together along a seam area (10) by laser radiation (11). The two components (7, 8) have mutually different transmission and absorption coefficients for the laser radiation (11) spectrum, at least in partial regions. The first component (8) is designed to transmit at least partly the laser radiation (11) down to the seam area (10) in the region of a first coupling area (12) in which the laser radiation (11) impinges upon the first component (8), whereby a part of the laser radiation (11) passes through the first component (8) and can penetrate at a second coupling area (13) in the second component (7). In the region of the seam area (10) at the second coupling area (13), the second component (7) is at least partly absorbent for the laser radiation (11). |
